13 Harrington, T. C., Huang, Q., Ferreira, M. A. and Alfenas, A. C. XXXX. Genetic 14 analyses trace the Yunnan, China population of Ceratocystis fimbriata on pomegranate 15 and taro to populations on Eucalyptus in Brazil. Plant Dis. XXXXXX. 16 17 Genotypes of the Latin American wilt pathogen Ceratocystis fimbriata have been moved 18 around the world in vegetatively propagated material of various crop plants, including 19 Ipomoea batatas (sweet potato), Colocasia esculenta (taro), and Eucalyptus spp. When 20 compared to a worldwide collection of isolates of C. fimbriata, isolates from taro, Punica 21 granatum (pomegranate), and Eriobotrya japonica (loquat) from Yunnan Province, China 22 were found to have sequences of ITS rDNA and mating type genes that were identical to 23 isolates from Eucalyptus in Brazil. Analyses of 35 isolates with 14 microsatellite markers 24 revealed that the Yunnan population was nearly uniform, consisting of only 19 alleles and 25 Page 1 of 24 Pl an t D is ea se " Fi rs t L oo k" p ap er • h ttp :// dx .d oi .o rg /1 0. 10 94 /P D IS -0 114 -0 05 6R E • p os te d 07 /0 2/ 20 14 T hi s pa pe r ha s be en p ee r re vi ew ed a nd a cc ep te d fo r pu bl ic at io n bu t h as n ot y et b ee n co py ed ite d or p ro of re ad . Genetic diversity and interfertility among highly differentiated populations of Ceratocystis fimbriata in Brazil

Mating studies showed that isolates of the insect-associated wilt pathogen Ceratocystis fimbriata from Eucalyptus spp., mango, fig, inhame (Colocasia esculenta), Gmelina arborea and sweet potato were interfertile, and progeny from those crosses showed normal segregation for microsatellite markers. Genetic diversity was compared among 13 populations of C. fimbriata collected from six states in B...

Movement of genotypes of Ceratocystis fimbriata within and among Eucalyptus plantations in Brazil.

Ceratocystis wilt on eucalyptus, caused by Ceratocystis fimbriata, was first recognized in 1997 in the state of Bahia, Brazil, but is now known in five other states and in four other countries. C. fimbriata is a native, soilborne pathogen in some parts of Brazil but we hypothesized that genotypes of the pathogen have been moved among plantations in rooted cuttings collected from diseased trees ...

Genetic variation and variation in aggressiveness to native and exotic hosts among Brazilian populations of Ceratocystis fimbriata.

Ceratocystis fimbriata is a complex of many species that cause wilt and cankers on woody plants and rot of storage roots or corms of many economically important crops worldwide. In Brazil, C. fimbriata infects different cultivated crop plants that are not native to Brazil, including Gmelina arborea, Eucalyptus spp., Mangifera indica (mango), Ficus carica (fig), and Colocasia esculenta (inhame)....

Genetic Variability and Host Specialization in the Latin American Clade of Ceratocystis fimbriata.

ABSTRACT The Ceratocystis fimbriata complex includes many undescribed species that cause wilt and canker diseases of many economically important plants. Phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequences have delineated three geographic clades within Ceratocystis fimbriata. This study examined host specialization in the Latin American clade, in which a number of lineages were identified using sequences of ...

Species or Genotypes? Reassessment of Four Recently Described Species of the Ceratocystis Wilt Pathogen, Ceratocystis fimbriata, on Mangifera indica.

Ceratocystis wilt is among the most important diseases on mango (Mangifera indica) in Brazil, Oman, and Pakistan. The causal agent was originally identified in Brazil as Ceratocystis fimbriata, which is considered by some as a complex of many cryptic species, and four new species on mango trees were distinguished from C. fimbriata based on variation in internal transcribed spacer sequences. In ...
